Learn Electric Guitar

If you want to learn electric guitar playing you need the best resources you can find. My first recomendation would be to find yourself a good instructor who teaches the style of guitar that you want to learn to play. This can get very expensive and setting up a lesson time might be hard to do depending on your schedule. Below you will find what I consider to be some of the best "teach yourself" resources available. Check these out, decide what's right for you, grab the resources and get to WAILING!

  • Gibson's Learn and Master Guitar

This is one of the most comprehensive and best courses to learn electric guitar that I have seen. I have gone through the sample videos to make sure that the training is quality and I have to say that the instructor, Steve Krenz is one of the best players and instructors that I have seen. Watch this YouTube video of Steve doing his stuff and you'll see what I mean:

The course is a bit pricey but it's well worth it and will definitely cost you less than hiring an instructor would. Give Gibson's Learn and Master Guitar a look. You'll be glad you did. By the way, Steve doesn't teach only fingerstyle guitar. There are lessons for any style you want to play. Even a seasoned guitar warhorse like me could learn a lot from Steve.

Jamorama's guitar teachers have worked with some of the greatest players of all time, including Bob Dylan and Patti Smith. You get far more than I've laid out here. Click the link above and give Jamorama a look. You won't regret it.

  • Guitar Scale Mastery

Mastering the scales as they apply to the electric guitar is an absolute MUST if you want to learn electric guitar. Every single playing technique - chording, rhythm playing, lead playing, harmonizing and on and on depend on mastering the scales. Doing this is one of the hardest parts of learning to play the guitar but your success or failure as a guitarist - electric or otherwise - depends on it. It can be bewildering and overwhelming, especially when you mix in all the other aspects of learning to play - I know, I taught myself and there were many times that I was tempted throw the thing down and quit. It's very rarely that you see any training course that focuses only on mastering the scales. Guitar Scale Mastery does exactly that. I wish it had been around wqhen I was learning. If you want to learn electric guitar, Guitar Scale Mastery is course that you definitely need in your arsenal of learning tools.

  • Riffmaster Pro

One of the hardest things about learning electric guitar is being able to successfully play all those cool riffs and licks that you hear your favorite guitarists play. Most people try to play along with the recordings but, let me tell you, that's an exercise in frustration. How on earth are you gong to keep up with a speed demon like Zakk Wylde or Tony Iommi? The answer - you won't. You'll just get frustrated. That's where Riffmaster Pro comes in. You can use it to slow the riffs down - without changing the pitch - so that you can play along with them. Once you get it right, you use Riffmaster Pro to gradually speed up the licks and as you get it right keep speeding them up untl the first thing you know you're screaming up and down the neck just like your guitar hero. After 30 years of playing, I still use tools for this that cost me much more than Riffmaster Pro would have had it been available years ago. Grab it and WAIL!
